A classic, comforting side dish featuring tender green beans in a creamy mushroom sauce, topped with crispy fried onions.

Ingredients

  • 1 can condensed Cream of Mushroom soup 10.5 ounces
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 4 cups cut green beans 2 cans green beans, one 16 ounce package frozen green beans or 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans
  • 1 1/3 cup crispy French fried onions divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9×9 casserole dish with cooking spray.
  2. If using fresh green beans, clean them.
  3. Cut the fresh green beans.
  4. Blanch the fresh green beans in a pot of boiling water for 2 minutes.
  5. If using canned green beans, drain them in a colander.
  6. Combine the condensed Cream of Mushroom soup and milk in a bowl.
  7. Stir the soup and milk until smooth and all lumps are gone.
  8. Stir in the soy sauce.
  9. Stir in the 4 cups of green beans.
  10. Stir in 2/3 of a cup of the crispy French fried onions (about half).
  11. Add 1/4 teaspoon pepper to taste.
  12. Mix everything well.
  13. Pour the green bean mixture into the prepared casserole dish.
  14. Spread the mixture out evenly.
  15. To cook in an Air Fryer: Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes.
  16. Stir the casserole.
  17. Sprinkle the remaining onions on top.
  18. Cook for 2 more minutes to brown the onions.
  19. To cook in an Oven: Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 minutes.
  20. Stir the casserole.
  21. Sprinkle the remaining onions on top.
  22. Bake for 5 more minutes until the onions are golden brown.

Notes

Always drain canned green beans thoroughly to prevent a watery casserole.
Soy sauce adds a wonderful umami flavor; don’t skip it!
Save some crispy onions for the top to ensure they stay crunchy.
Adjust pepper to your taste preference.
